Why a Strategic Plan?

The district seeks to eliminate duplication and waste of resources.

To ensure the correct programs and resources are activated where and when they are needed.

To grow Rotary so we are the International Service Club of relevance “NOW” and into the foreseeable future.

Ensure the decisions made at Club, District, National or International level are thoroughly investigated before implementation to suit the present and future generations.

Our Plan must have consistency, continuity, sustainability that will inspire Rotarians to turn conversations into action    

 Rotary International Strategic Priorities and Objectives:

  • Rotary International stands on the cusp of eliminating polio, we find ourselves poised for our next challenge. The time is right to move toward realizing a new vision that brings more people together increases our impact and creates lasting change around the world.

To achieve the vision of Rotary International and the Rotary Foundation, we have set four priorities that will direct our work over the next (5)five years.

  • Increase Our Impact:
  1. Eradicate Polio
  2. Focus our Programs  & Offerings
  3. Improve our ability to achieve and measure impact
  • Expand our Reach:
  1. Diversify our membership and participation
  2. Create new channels into Rotary
  3. Increase Rotary’s openness and appeal
  4. Build awareness of our impact and brand.
  • Enhance Participant Engagement:
  1. Support clubs to better engage their members
  2. Develop a participant-centred approach to deliver value
  3. Offer new opportunities for personal and professional connection
  4. Provide leadership development and skills Training.
  • Increase Our Ability to Adapt:
  1. Build a culture of research, innovation and willingness to take risks
  2. Streamline governance, structure and processes
  3. Review governance to foster more diverse perspectives in decision making

Rotary District 9650 Mission:

  • WE will be the service organisation of choice with dynamic action oriented clubs whose contribution improves lives in communities worldwide. Made up of hardworking people doing extraordinary programmes
  • The below “4” C’s will take us on a journey of change:
  1. Communicating our stories with an emphasis on using modern technology and what Rotary offers in our Society
  2. Connecting with our communities and partners so that we can make a greater impact
  3. Charity—Be proud of the Rotary Foundation and what we can achieve in the world using the (6) six Areas of Focus and that by using those partners we are eradicating Polio
  4. Compliance—We are a professional organisation and need to ensure that we maintain those very high standards that sets us apart from other Charities

District 9650 Vision:

Our vision is to strengthen Rotary in District 9650 to ensure continuity, sustainability and maximum possible impact of our work into future:

  • Develop continuity in Membership retention and growth
  • Support and strengthen clubs in initiatives and future development within the district
  • Enhance District 9650 clubs public image
  • Encourage District 9650 Clubs to be innovative, creative, engaging and user friendly with members and the community.
  • Encourage members to accept change
  • Strengthen and encourage ongoing support for humanitarian service
  • Continually follow Rotary’s   Avenues of Service
  • Encourage  Rotary Clubs in District 9650 to fully support Rotary Foundation
  • Development of NEW CLUBS—Satellite-E-club-Alumni-Caused Base-Passport Rotary Club-Corporate Rotary Club-Young Professional Club-Young Entrepreneurs Club-Ex-Services Rotary Club-Farmers Rotary Club   

Where are we Now:

  • We have 54 clubs, 1388 Rotarians, a significant body of supporters, Family, Friends and the community. Rotarians are trusted and admired for the work we do with youth, community and the disadvantaged throughout our District.
  • Membership is Stagnant or slowly declining, the average age is rising
  • Raising funds is difficult, particularly for Voluntary organisations, we need to be more innovative in our approach to fund raising
  • Rotary’s work and deeds is the best kept secret in the World particularly in Australia. We seem to be embarrassed by the public awareness of our deeds.
  • Need build our skills in technology
  • Lack of interest by older members to introduce new members
  • Younger people think Rotary is an old person domain

Where do we want to be in 3 years:

  • To be a Major Supporter and Contributor to Rotary Foundation
  • Fully Embrace TECHNOLOGY, allowing for easier communications and effective management.
  • To have sustainable plans in place to ensure efficient and effective use of resources to maximise the impact our efforts and contributions
  • The service organisation of choice with dynamic action orientated clubs whose contributions improve lives.
  • With the help of the Foundations Global Grants help those in need in poor and developing countries across the world
  • Have all clubs in the district to embrace Rotaries YOUTH programs
  • Fully Re-establish the GSE program
  • Retain the current membership with a 10% p/a increase in new members

Strategies to help achieve our Vision:

  • Service organisation of Choice
  • Further promote ROTARY FOUNDATION in clubs
  • 100% District 9650 Rotarians as Foundation Centurions
  • Encourage and reward innovation
  • Work with Clubs to encourage membership growth
  • Clubs becoming involved in sustainable programs through District and Global Grants
  • Increase sustainability in Youth Services programs
  • Work with clubs for continuity in support for POLIO PLUS
  • Encourage Clubs to continue to work hard on Rotary’s five avenues of service
  • Promote District Goals and Programs through Assistant Governors
  • Increase training of future leaders
  • Promote Rotary Programs locally and nationally
  • Promote District 9650 achievements
  • Increase participation in Rotary Conferences
  • Increase Rotary impact by involvement with major organisations
  • Increased utilization of all aspects of social media including websites

Sustainable plans to ensure efficient and effective use of resources to maximise impact of our efforts and contributions

  • Encourage clubs to put in place a working strategic and financial plan for a 1—3—5 year period.
  • Ensure Corporate Governance at all times
