The Rotary Foundation is our charity of choice. The mission of the Rotary Foundation is to do good in the world.
It is once again time for Clubs in District 9650 to consider the projects that they are participating in at the local, national and International levels and to consider making an application to the Rotary Foundation for a District grant before the closing date in mid-October 2015.

The Grant Manual for 2015_16 has been sent to all Clubs and is available on the District website in the Library section. The grant application is also available in both places. Please download these documents and use them as a guide to making an application for a District grant.

With limited resources ($33,500US which will translate to possibly $43,000AUD) , it may not be possible to provide grants to all Clubs who make applications, so Clubs who have already received a grant in the 2014_15 year may not have their applications approved in 2015_16. However still make the application as the District committee can assist with alternative means of financing worthwhile projects.

The closing date for applications for District grants is mid-October 2015, so please start organising and working on your application now. Seek help from the District committee if you need any assistance at all.(
All Club members by now should be familiar with the Rotary International website.
The Grant application tool allows you to work through making an application for a Global Grant. At present four Clubs in the District are working on global grant applications.
The key to making a successful grant is to ensure that it fits one of the six areas of focus and that it is sustainable so that the money used reaps long term benefits.
More information is available on the Rotary Foundation tab of the District website.
The Rotary Club of Tamworth First Light are looking are re equipping the Maternity section of the Hospital at Rabaul. Papua New Guinea in the near future. Coffs Harbour club are working in Kirabati with providing clean water and Port Macquarie are working in Nepal with the development of vegetable gardens in hothouse conditions. Tamworth Club are working with the provision of sanitary toilets for girls in India.
We are using public monies and as such we must ensure that we properly account for the spending of the grant by making timely and valuable reports as and when required.
Clubs are beginning in the District to recognise that the Use of Vocational Training teams is a valuable way to ensure that the local communities in which we work get the necessary skills and training to ensure that the project will remain sustainable.
The eradication of Polio remain the number 1 goal for the Foundation, with great success this year in Nigeria where there have been no reported cases for over one year. It is anticipated that eradication will occur by 2018.
Bill and Melinda Gates continue their great support for the eradication of Polio by matching 2 for 1 any monies raised by clubs through the Rotary Foundation for the eradication of Polio. Although Pakistan remains the country of most concern it is pleasing to note that through the efforts and funding by the Rotary and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundations the year to date figures are slightly down with Nigeria showing the most promise with the last case reported in July. Only Wild type A Polio cases are shown in the tables with no cases reported for Type C in the past two years. Another success.
Only by our continual support of the Rotary Foundation can we ensure that the good works of Rotary can continue into the future. For every dollar we raise this year ½ is returned to the District in three years’ time.
