Throughout August and into September Interplast has supported our volunteers to deliver programs in Vietnam, Fiji, Sri Lanka and Mongolia, while our programs team have been putting the finishing touches on numerous programs to be delivered in September - including to the Philippines, Vanuatu, Samoa, PNG and Fiji.
In Vietnam, after a pause in programming last year while Interplast worked with local partners to meet strict new compliance requirements for overseas NGOs, we were pleased to deliver a surgical and hand therapy mentoring program to Da Nang, focused on brachial plexus injury (injuries to the nerves that control the shoulder, arm and hand).
In Fiji a team of two physiotherapists and one speech pathologist delivered Interplast's second annual allied health workshop, in partnership with the Fiji National University; while in Sri Lanka we undertook a brief planning visit.
In Mongolia, we delivered a “first of its kind” program for Interplast - a two-week program that included one week of paediatric burns surgery in the remote town of Murun, as well as a week of burns training delivered in Ulaanbaatar.
We’ve got lots of exciting projects happening between now and Christmas, so keep an eye out for our next update.
